Peneda-Gerês National Park is a picturesque natural area with a unique heritage situated in the North East corner of Portugal. Since 2009, together with the Natural Park of Xurés (Spain), it became a UNESCO Transboundary Biosphere Reserve. Sustainable tourism is actively promoted there, the region taking part in the international sustainable development program also called the“European Charter for Sustainable Tourism”. Peneda-Gerês National Park protects nature which also involves special trainings for local guides specialised in wilderness watching . This program also strengthens local traditions by supporting local associations and promoting small producers.
