Sintra is a Portuguese coastal destination located in the Lisbon region. Most of its beaches have “Excellent” bathing water quality and two of them are currently undergoing improvements to make them accessible to people with disabilities. Sintra also has precious natural, architectural and archaeological relics which were recognized already in 1995 as World Heritage by UNESCO. The destination maintains this heritage alive, well preserved and promoted. Furthermore, Sintra stays one of the first few Portuguese municipalities to develop a local strategic plan to face climate change.
Portugal participated in the 2019 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Awards at ITB Berlin by submitting a sustainable tourism story.
