Noordwijk aan Zee is a Dutch seaside town with rugged dunes, woodlands, flower fields and an eye-catching 13 km of sandy beaches. More than half of its territory has nature conservation status. The town is striving to be energy neutral by 2030. For example, the project “Every day is a Sunday” aims to reduce the reliance on fossil fuel energy by implementing 3,000 solar panels in Noordwijk. The town also re-enhanced its local identity with the policy “Noordwijk Binnen” supporting the preservation of the historic center in its integrity. Furthermore, Noordwijk also works on becoming an off-season destination (MICE market, public events) to attract visitors outside summer period and has recently opened a hiking path through the South Holland dunes.
