Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America, is located along the state line of California and Nevada in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is home to winter sports, summer outdoor recreation, and scenery enjoyed throughout the year.

Although many of the Lake Tahoe watersheds and aquatic habitats are degraded as a result of past human activities, a partnership of federal, state, and local agencies, private interests, scientists and the Washoe Tribe are all collaborating to protect and improve the extraordinary natural and recreational resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The collective impact of all these organizations confirms their firm commitment to sustainability in all its aspects. This past year they achieved to improve forest and ecosystem health, progress on lake clarity, restore fish and wildlife habitat, and better public access for recreation at Lake Tahoe.
