Cascais is a coastal town next to Lisbon in Portugal. This destination is engaged in many efforts to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 20% by 2020. As a consequence, the destination promotes the use of soft mobility, offering free bicycles rentals at various points around the town. Cascais also gives a great attention to environmental education by offering tours informing about the local cultural, natural and historical heritage at the Eco park of Pisao and by providing education and information about the rich coastal biodiversity of the area at the Environmental Interpretation Center of Pedra do Sal (CIAPS), the first “Zero Energy building” in Portugal.

Portugal participated in the 2019 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Awards at ITB Berlin by submitting a sustainable tourism story and Cascais also submitted its own Sustainable tourism story.

Cascais also participated in the 2019 Global Green Destinations Days by submitting two Good Practice Stories.
