Alberta SouthWest is “where the prairies meet the Rocky Mountains” offering an abundance of outdoor recreation activities and amenities. The designation of the Castle Provincial Park and Wildland Park creates assets complementing and enhancing what the destination already has. Castle Mountain Resort offers thrilling downhill skiing experiences and is uniquely situated adjacent to the new Park areas.
Alberta Southwest collaborates with rural communities and organizations which has worked together for over 15 years, demonstrating award-winning capacity to “help each other succeed”. The designation of the new Castle Park and Wildland Park creates a vision of harmoniously integrating new opportunities within the communities, culture and economies of the region.
Since 2006 the Alberta Southwest region has provided leadership in the Crown of the Continent Geotourism initiative, a transboundary partnership with British Columbia and Montana, aligned with National Geographic and Geotourism principles. In 2006 AlbertaSW became a founding sponsor organization of the Crown of the Continent Geotourism Council. Alberta SW has conducted geotourism workshops and continues to put significant resources toward supporting the Crown Roundtable, and maintaining a strong partnership with National Geographic is an important factor in its tourism industry development.
The region is a top destination for soft mobility improvements, and it is also committed to conduct initiatives in the renewable energy field. AlbertaSW is a founding partner of the Southern Alberta Alternative Energy Partnership (SAAEP). This collaboration of 3 economic development organizations represents 39 communities and serves to support research and ensure community preparedness for opportunities in renewable energy.
